Street Talk is a defensive driving course produced by NZIDI, the training group of NZIDE.
Street Talk is a Waka Kotahi NZTA (New Zealand Transport Authority) approved course in advanced driving skills. Completing a Street Talk course reduces the amount of time on your Restricted licence.
Street Talk teaches driving safety skills in a fun and interactive way that aims to help you to better understand and cope with risks when you’re driving and improve your driving. But most importantly of all, to be a safer driver.
This course consists of eight hours of classroom theory and a one hour practical driving assessment, which is preparation for the Full Licence test.
The theory component of the course encourages the student to consider:
- Risk perception
- Risk management
- Self reflection
- Decision making
- Goal setting
- Monitoring
Restricted licence holders receive a time reduction from 18 months to 12 months if under 25 years of age. If aged 25 or over, the Restricted licence timeframe reduces from 6 months to 3 months.
